Why GetDevUtils processes 100% of your data in your browser—and why that matters for your security.
Most online developer utilities—JSON formatters, JWT decoders, Base64 encoders—operate on a simple model: you paste your data, it gets sent to a server, the server processes it, and returns the result. This model creates serious security and privacy concerns:
For developers working with production data, authentication tokens, or proprietary code, this model is fundamentally incompatible with security best practices.
GetDevUtils implements a Local-First architecture. This means every tool runs entirely within your browser using JavaScript and Web APIs. Your data never leaves your device.
Our local-first architecture leverages modern browser APIs to deliver server-like functionality without the server:
JSON formatting, validation, and tree visualization use the browser's native JSON.parse()and JSON.stringify() methods. Schema validation runs locally using JavaScript implementations of JSON Schema validators. Your API responses, configuration files, and data payloads never touch our servers.
JWT tokens are decoded using JavaScript's atob() for Base64URL decoding. Signature verification uses the Web Crypto API (crypto.subtle.verify()) for HMAC-SHA256 and RSA operations. Your authentication tokens, secrets, and private keys remain exclusively on your device.
SHA-256, SHA-512, and other hash functions are computed using the Web Crypto API(crypto.subtle.digest()). This provides hardware-accelerated, cryptographically secure hashing without any network requests. MD5 uses a JavaScript implementation for legacy compatibility.
File uploads (for Base64 encoding, hash verification, CSV parsing) use the FileReader API. Files are read directly from your file system into browser memory, processed locally, and never uploaded. Large file handling uses streaming where possible to minimize memory usage.
URL encoding/decoding, Base64 operations, regex testing, string manipulation—all use built-in JavaScript methods like encodeURIComponent(), btoa()/atob(), and RegExp. These operations execute in microseconds with zero network latency.
Some GetDevUtils tools offer optional AI-powered enhancements (AI Repair, Schema Validation, Mock Data Generation). We believe in complete transparency about when data leaves your browser:
Every AI-powered button in our interface is clearly labeled. If a feature uses AI, you'll see an indicator like "AI Repair" or "AI-Powered". Features without this label run entirely locally.
Since your data never leaves your device (when using non-AI features), GetDevUtils helps you maintain compliance with data handling regulations. Whether you're working under GDPR, HIPAA, SOC 2, or internal security policies, local processing means no third-party data sharing concerns.
Traditional server-based tools create attack vectors: server breaches, API vulnerabilities, man-in-the-middle attacks. With local-first architecture, there's no server to breach. Your data exists only in your browser's memory and is cleared when you close the tab.
Because processing happens locally, most GetDevUtils tools work even without an internet connection. Load the page once, and you can format JSON, decode JWTs, and generate hashes completely offline. This is ideal for air-gapped development environments.
Network round-trips add latency. Server processing adds more. Local-first means your results appear instantly—typically in under 10 milliseconds. Format a 10MB JSON file in seconds, not minutes.
